Here at TTS we have heard that soon air travellers will be scrutinized by airport "behaviour detection officers". Apparently this covert surveillance is already in place in the U.S., Britain and Israel and now a panel of aviation and security experts have recommended behavioural profiling at Canadian airports too. The officers, in plain clothes, will watch passengers for any physiological hints of "hostile intent" in their behaviour as they pass through security and departure lounges. The officers "will be trained to study air passengers' facial expressions and body movements such as nervous foot-tapping to spot telltale signs of terrorist intent." So if that double espresso gets you jittery or you're a sweaty nervous flyer anyway, watch out!
From potential human-made disasters to natural ones … a new website has been launched to provide consolidated news on such phenomena as hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires, floods, pandemics and so on. Website spokesman Dave Miller, commenting on the site - www.disasterupdates.com - explained "Existing web resources are either too specialized or too complex for the average person in need of quick disaster information." Happy reading!
I hope you all enjoy this issue, with its strong focus on Japan. And, of course, I wish you safe and happy travels in our lovely Fall season.
