Consider Air India
We recently flew Air India from Toronto to Birmingham, England,
our second flight with them in a year. They fly Boeing 777's,
which are a little tired with a poor entertainment system, but
you get friendly personal service and a chance to sample their
Indian cuisine.
Both
times our flights have been on time. Security screening for
their flights is intense and reminds me of El Al, so be prepared
for multiple carry-on baggage and identity checks.
The
real benefit is flying into an airport with good access to motorways,
rail, flights to Europe and beyond, coupled with no hassle immigration,
baggage retrieval and check-in. For people looking for retail
therapy there are a variety of shops in the departure lounge.
We
used Knowle (Birmingham) as our base for travel to: Llangollen,
North Wales, to visit the beautiful Dee Valley, Llangollen Canal,
Pontcysllte Aqueduct and Llangollen Railway, also Torbay, travelling
by cross-country train in a little over three hours.
Anybody
considering using this route to the UK should research fares
carefully as Air India's web fares are expensive. We found cheaper
fares from travel agencies than on the internet.
