Munich is a vibrant city – perfect for a city break, the starting point for a tour through Germany, or a good jumping off point for excursions into other areas of Europe such as Austria and the Czech Republic. Here are two centrally located hotels I can recommend in Munich:
NH München Deutscher Kaiser
Arnulfstr. 2. D-80335 Munich
I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of a tour through Eastern Europe and had no difficulty finding my way around on my own to do some shopping and have a meal. It’s across from the main train station – and if you turn left out of the hotel and walk for about 10 minutes and you have easy access to many cafés and restaurants in and around Marienplatz – a very good location for exploring on your own.
Hotel TRYP Munich
Paul-Heyse-Strasse 24, 80336, Munich
Another hotel I’ve stayed at in Munich and can recommend is the Hotel TRYP. It’s also well-located, within 20 minutes’ walk of the cafés, restaurants and shops of Marienplatz and is very easy to find. Beer-lovers will be pleased – the hotel is handy to Theresienwiese (think Oktoberfest). Day trips, to nearby Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria (one of Mad King Ludwig’s homes), can be booked through hotel reception.
